Congratulations! You may be pregnant or maybe you even just had a baby -and lucky you if actually have time to read this. There’s no feeling more wonderful and unbelievable than when you’ve just had a baby. So why don’t you feel wonderful all the time? No worries, this is terribly common therefore you do not have to feel like you are all alone on this.
Well, even the best and happiest events in life have stress attached to them. Having a baby is naturally very exciting for everyone. You’ve been flooded with company from family and friends practically from the moment of delivery. If you’re a first-time mother, hospitals don’t offer you very much help or advice did they..? They only send you home with this new little creature with an array of demands that you have to attempt to interpret and satisfy. And new babies don’t sleep much. At least not long enough to allow you to get some much required rest.
Add to that the hormonal changes in your own body, and you have a formula that’s certain to be stressful. Sometimes you’re thinking that you’ll never get a full night’s sleep again. Until the baby settles into a routine, you most likely won’t!
To get through those 1st few weeks and months, here are a few tips to help you get at least a little more sleep.
First of all, don’t attempt to be a supermom and that you’ve got to try to to each single thing under the sun, and do it alone. When the baby goes down for a nap, why not simply lay down and take a tiny nap yourself. The laundry can wait and so will the dishes. You don’t need to have a perfectly spotless house. There can be time for all that; give yourself a break whenever you get the opportunity. It’s okay for the house to have that lived in look for awhile, no one should be keeping score here. Just give yourself a break.
If you have got a good friend or relative to help out, by all means take advantage of that for a day here and there as you can. Grandma would in all probability jump at the prospect to possess the baby all to herself for a few hours!
When you place the baby to bed for the night, take your time to decompress and relax so you’ve got a better chance of falling asleep. Take a bath scented with lavender; place on some soft music and baby yourself a little for a change. Sometimes it’s hard even without a new baby to go to sleep right away. There’s a heap to get used to! However you may soon be ready to relax into your new role as a mom if you just take things in stride.
