Like so many other things in life that we use, Baby Car Seats have their pros and cons. So, it is good to evaluate your needs and the various products on the market along with the features of each product before you buy.
First, babies do not all come in the same size and neither do baby car seats. Babies come in different lengths and weights so you will want to look at the weight and height limits for each seat.
Some seats do not support the child’s neck very well and you will either want to get a different seat or add a car seat neck pillow or neck support.
You want to do everything possible to make the car seat as comfortable as possible, especially if you are going to be traveling for a number of hours.
Being strapped in has its safety pluses but it also has its drawbacks. I personally have not had a comfortable car ride since wearing seat belts have become a mandatory requirement in cars. Not being able to move around some while driving gives me a terrible back ache and the belt rubs uncomfortably against my shoulder even with an added protector pad.
If you are strapping in small children then I would suggest that you stop more often for rest breaks. Give them a chance to get out of the car and be free for a few minutes.
The thing that I worry the most about is not being able to escape the car during an accident. A few days ago the news carried a story about a lady and her two children that were trapped in a car that was on fire. Good Samaritans were able to free the mother and little girl unharmed. But, by the time they got the four year old boy out of the car he had suffered burns over 20% of his body.
If the child had not been strapped in he might have been injured in some other way during the wreck. However, he would have also been able to crawl to the hatch area of the car and gotten further away from the fire had he not been strapped into a car seat.
I recommend that everyone carry a seat belt cutter and an escape hammer in their car, especially if they are carrying children in car seats in the car.
Some car seats are not as well padded as others and if your child is in the car a lot then this is a feature that you will also want to pay close attention to.
Some car seats have activity lights which are nice if you travel with your child a lot in the evenings. And then you might want to check out how many little compartments the seat has for holding toys and treats. Both of these features will help entertain your child while riding.

Although scores of well-intentioned parents, grandparents, midwives, daycare providers, and concerned citizens certainly will advise you, no one can presume to tell you the best diaper. You must wrestle with The Great Diaper Dilemma, weighing conscience against convenience, occasionally considering your child’s comfort, and reach your own conclusion. Advanced philosophers discuss “heuristics,” your truth-tests or principles of evaluation and judgment. On those, the factions typically agree. Pro-cloth and pro-disposable advocates measure diapers’ value by: (1) cost and convenience; (2) the baby’s comfort; (3) most earth-friendly and eco-sensitive; and (4) style and attractiveness. Among some factions, numbers three and four count equally.
